You don’t look a day over 49

August 11, 2011

Remember 1962? Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and a new group, the Beatles, were playing on the radio. TV sets — black and white with rabbit ears — have arrived in 90% of American homes, and families gathered around to watch The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, Mr. Ed, and Lucy. JFK was President, gas was 28 cents a gallon, the Dow closed the year at 652 – and NICSA was born!

As the story goes — leaders from within the mutual fund industry in Boston met informally, after work, to create best practices in operations and shareholder servicing. The industry has grown in size and complexity since then, and NICSA has grown alongside it — into the world’s leading provider of independent education and networking forums — while maintaining the same, unrivaled sense of camaraderie among operations professionals that the founding members intended.

The 2011 – 2012 program season marks NICSA’s 50 years of service to the investment industry. Join us to kick off the year-long celebration at the General Membership Meeting & Best Practices Symposium in Boston on October 5-6.

All season long, watch for celebratory messages and content from NICSA members, leadership and award winners, past and present –like this one from NICSA’s first professional president, Bob Goldberg:

Happy Birthday NICSA! That is quite an accomplishment to reach a half century as a viable organization. It is testimony to the many volunteers who gave time and great effort to build a foundation that has endured for fifty years.

My organization joined NICSA in 1969 and we received much benefit from the association in the way of knowledge and advanced our learning curve about the industry considerably. The value of the information and help our organization received from the members was priceless. When I became the first President that information and help was provided to me by the volunteers and staff and I am grateful to all of them.

As you continue on to the next fifty years I wish you continued success and remain thankful for my time with NICSA.
